JAY-BE Value Folding Bed Review
Summary
Compact, extremely light, foldable and cheaper than most folding beds, the JAY-BE Value Folding Bed is the ideal solution for guest rooms if you’re working on a budget. Not only does it fold and unfold easily, but it can also be stored just about anywhere with enough space.
I’ll just come right out and ask; short of an air mattress (ouch), what’s the closest thing to a real bed you can get for under 50? It’s all in the name folks, and here’s my experience with the JAY-BE Value Folding Bed, one of the best folding beds on the UK market.
JAY-BE Value Folding Bed review
What are you buying?
What you’re buying can aptly be described as cosy portable guest bed solution for literally any situation. Looking at the dimensions, it’s evident that the bed is built for only one. However, I did notice that taller guests tend to have their feet way beyond the frame and mattress. But that’s just part of what makes this Value folding bed the most compact and portable of them all.
See, unlike the single and double folding beds from the same brand, this one doesn’t come with a headboard. Couple that with the incredibly light and compact design and you have a bed that can be stored literally anywhere. This includes under a bed, in your wardrobe, beside a table, or even in the boot of your car. Of course, it does go without saying that lack of a headboard could lead to a misbehaving pillow.
The JAY-BE Value Folding Bed might be light, but it’s just as robust as your average camping bed. The manufacturer used sturdy steel to make the frame and legs. And like all of JAY-BE folding beds, this one is also made in the UK and comes with a free lifetime frame guarantee. How’s that for quality assurance?
This frame easily folds out in a matter of seconds to reveal the breathable fibre mattress. Jay-Be also incorporated their patented Tex Sprung base system that not only guarantees more comfort and support, but also durability on the tension. This system works even better with a more comfortable mattress, but like all value purchases, you get what you paid for. What can I say?
How easy is it to use?
When it comes to the ease of use, the JAY-BE Value Folding Bed is probably the most user-friendly option of them all.
I mean, if there was a competition between Jay-Be’s folding beds, the value bed would take half the time to set up and fold again.
Now, keep in mind that the bed still makes use of automatic legs, but there’s one major feature that really had me concerned, or rather a lack of it.
Unlike the other single and double folding beds, the JAY-BE Value Folding Bed doesn’t come with castors to make transportation easier. However, it’s compact and extremely lightweight nature would render the castors invalid if you think of it.
All I literally have to do to move it is to fold her up and carry it underarm. The mattress also looks like it was meant to be a part of the frame. But while it might be a bit cheap, I guess it’s alright for guests who come over occasionally.
What really had me impressed is how thin the profile is once you folded down. It almost seems like I could stack at least three of these under my bed and five in my car’s trunk. And if you transport or store the bed for longer periods, I’d recommend ordering a made to measure cover to keep the bed clean and dust free.
Pros
- Cheapest folding bed from Jay-Be
- British made with a lifetime guarantee
- Incredibly light and compact dimensions
Cons
- May not be as comfortable as other expensive brands
Anything else you should know?
As with all beds meant for the guest room, it’s fair to expect the occasional use. However, there are a few things to consider before buying the JAY-BE Value Folding Bed.
If you’re buying the bed to use in your guest room or for camping, then this is the option that won’t cost you more than you need to spend. But if you’re buying the bed for regular use, then you’ll want to consider a more comfortable mattress.
My view
Compact, extremely light, foldable and cheaper than most folding beds, the JAY-BE Value Folding Bed is the ideal solution for guest rooms if you’re working on a budget.
Not only does it fold and unfold easily, but it can also be stored just about anywhere with enough space. Sure, the mattress may be a bit thin, but it’s definitely more value for your money.
