What are you buying?

Whether it’s your parents, friends, or family, many are the times when a couple has to sleep over at your home. It doesn’t even need to be a couple; if I’m being honest, I’m always making my guests share a bed so that everyone sleeps comfortably. That’s why I needed a much larger sleeping area so that no guest is left out in the cold.

The JAY-BE Venus Double Folding Guest Bed is ideal for guest rooms that see a lot of action. If you have people staying over for a couple of months, this is the bed you want. That’s because the bed incorporates a robust and fairly sturdy steel frame that is primed to handle a lot of weight.

Like all of Jay-Be’s best folding beds, this double bed also makes use of a sprung slatted base to add more support and comfort. Both the base and steel frame are finished in high-quality epoxy paint to give it that long lasting look.

Now for the folding mechanism; this double bed can be folded in half and stored away pretty easy. It might be a double, but it compacts very nicely when folded. But the feature that really had me going was the fully automatic folding legs. These allow users to open and close the bed in a matter of seconds without requiring any help.

Now for the softest part; the mattress. It’s this one aspect of the double bed that sets it apart from the Jay-Be single bed. The included dual density mattress combines two layers of Airflow Fibre for excellent comfort.

A softer top layer provides exceptional pressure relief while the higher density lower layer offers additional support. And thanks to the unique open cell structure the mattress is able to breathe; ensuring that it stays fresh even when not in use.

How easy is it to use?

Having used both of Jay-Be’s single and double beds, one thing obviously stands out. The JAY-BE Venus Double Folding Guest Bed is obviously heavier, but also far more durable. But to counter that, the manufacturer made things a whole lot easier.

For starters, the 360-degree castors allow this bed to be easily manoeuvered to any room in the house. And once you get there, the fully automatic legs open on their own so you can set up in seconds.

After setting up, the headboard also falls into place seamlessly to create the perfect resting place for your pillow. You know, once this bed is actually made, you’d be forgiven for mistaking it with a standard bed.

After hopping in, I also noticed that the dual density mattress works hand in hand with the sprung slats for uniform comfort and support. Ad if you want to put the bed away or clean under, all it takes is one sweet motion and you have the bed folded up and ready for storage.

Anything else you should know?

I’ll be the first to admit; it can be very hard for a folding bed to include a high quality, high density mattress. That’s because while they want you to be as comfortable as possible, they also have to balance thickness with foldability.

So considering how thin the mattress appears when first unpacked, the dual density comfort you get is hands down superb. Unfortunately, I noticed that the mattress thins even more with regular use leaving most of the support to the sprung slats.

My view

Robust, sturdy, eye-catching, functional and affordable, the JAY-BE Venus Double Folding Guest Bed is the ideal bed for your guests and visitors. Not only do you get a larger sleeping area, but all the extra perks come at barely any additional cost over the same brand’s single bed.

Likewise, the folding bed exceeds British safety standards and is FSC certified. So if you’re looking for the occasional bunk for a couple of guests sleeping or staying over, then this could be exactly what you need.
